A big change in PCs' operating system battle?

There are many computer operating systems in the world of computers. Perhaps, Microsoft's Window is the most popular. Microsoft have just released a new version of window operating system, the Microsoft Window Vista. People love to use Window operating systems because of its friendly interface and easiness in using. But, there may be a big change in the operating systems' world. People think that this change can be done by an open source operating system, Linux. One of the advantages of Linux is its high security. There are more and more companies tend to use Linux on their computers.

This change can be true in the future. It is affirmed by that fact that Dell is considering using the Linux operating system as an alternative to Microsoft's Windows on its personal computers. They said that they received more than 100,000 customer requests for Linux.

"We are listening to what customers are saying about Linux and taking it into consideration," said Dell spokesman David Lord. "We are going forward. Let's say, 'Certainly stay tuned.'"(CNN).

Linux is an open-source operating system and therefore it generally is free. Linux can be installed and run on most of computers. When we use Microsoft Window, we have to buy it (with a big money in my country) and perhaps it can costs us when upgrading. For example, Dell does not break out how much it charges for Windows when it calculates the cost of a computer system, but a basic upgrade version of the software generally retails for $99.

The another advantage when using Linux is that we can find many free softwares to run on it. One of the most popular free software title is OpenOffice, which competes with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

So, why Microsoft Window is now still more popular than Linux? The answer is its friendly and pretty interface. Window is for all kinds of users from a child to an professional engineer. On the other hand, Linux is suitable for professional users and for company usage. We will wait to see whether there is a big change in the battle of operating systems.
